Shanghai Bobby wins 2YO Male Eclipse Award

Harlan’s Holiday earned his first Eclipse Award as a sire when Shanghai Bobby was named the 2-year-old male Eclipse Award champion for 2012 in Saturday evening’s ceremonies.

“We have Shanghai Bobby to thank,” Jack Wolf, principal of Starlight Stables and Shanghai Bobby’s co-owner said. “He’s led us down a tremendous adventure, the way he won the Breeders’ Cup. As (Daily Racing Form’s) Dave Grening points out, he’s a hell of a horse.”

Shanghai Bobby capped off a perfect year with a scintillating victory in the $2 million Breeders’ Cup Juvenile (G1) in November at Santa Anita Park. Besides the Breeders’ Cup, signature wins for Shanghai Bobby came in the Champagne S. (G1), Hopeful S. (G2) and Track Barron S., along with his maiden debut victory.

Shanghai Bobby, a $105,000 Keeneland September yearling buy bred in Kentucky by Stonehaven Steadings, earned $1,687,000 in 2012. He is owned by Starlight Racing, Mrs. John Magnier, Michael Tabor and Derrick Smith.

Harlan’s Holiday finished 2012 as the nation’s leading sire of 2-year-olds, with more than $2.9 million in progeny earnings. He also is also in the top 5 in the categories of winners, stakes winners, and stakes horses. Harlan’s Holiday will stand the 2013 season at WinStar for $35,000 LFS&N.
