Sharp Humor 3YO romps in the Santa Paula

Mildly Offensive stamped herself as a 3-year-old filly with a big future when she dominated the $100,000 Santa Paula S. at Santa Anita on March 20th.(WATCH VIDEO) Making her first start since romping in her debut last month, the talented daughter of Sharp Humor stayed perfect with a decisive 4 1/4-length over stakes fillies in the 6 1/2-furlong contest.

Ridden by Rafael Bejarano, Mildly Offensive broke well and was content to settle wide in the three path as Grade 2-winning sprinter California Nectar dictated the early pace to her inside. But Mildly Offensive – an imposing bay – didn’t wait long to take over and strut her stuff, as she ranged up and began to move clear from her opposition turning for home.

Confidently ridden, Mildly Offensive opened up impressively, splashing home to hit the wire in 1:15.70 over the sloppy local track. She earned a 95 Beyer Speed Figure and improved her record to a perfect 2-for-2. Trained by Carla Gaines, Mildly Offensive now has career earnings of $92,400 for owner Warren Williamson, and is likely headed for a start in graded stakes company next.

“We’ve always thought a lot of her and she ran to our expectations today,” Gaines said.

Mildly Offensive is one of five stakes winners from the first crop of Sharp Humor, tying the Distorted Humor stallion with fellow sophomore sires Bernardini and War Front for most stakes winners to date. He stands the 2011 season for $7,500 stands and nurses.

Mildly Offensive was bred and sold by WinStar Farm.
