Sonic Mule rockets to victory in Gulftream’s Buffalo Man S.

Sonic Mule sped out of the gate and never looked back in his victory in the $75,000 Buffalo Man S. Saturday at Gulfstream Park, the first stakes win for the promising 2-year-old son of Distorted Humor.

Sonic Mule, bred by WinStar Farm and owned by Calumet Farm, has been in the top three in all six of his starts, including the Saratoga Special (G2), and has now earned $128,175.

Despite stalking the pace in his previous outings, Sonic Mule went right to the front in the Buffalo Man, and after some early pressure from Uncle B, the bay colt began to pull away, ultimately winning by 1 3/4-lengths in a sharp 1:10.67 on a sloppy main track.

“He’s a horse with a pedigree that suggests maybe he would do just about anything,” winning trainer Todd Pletcher said. “He’s a horse that always seems like he is ready to go and we’ve picked out different opportunities for him. He was a bit unlucky not to win on the grass in that one race here (at Gulfstream), but I think he seems to be his best doing this.”

Pletcher said he would point Sonic Mule to the $100,000 Hutcheson S. (G3) Jan. 7. The Hutcheson is run at six furlongs.

“For now we’ll keep him short, and then we will let him stretch his way out if he wants to,” Pletcher said.

Sonic Mule joins the list of Distorted Humor’s 2016 stakes winners that includes Vosburgh S. (G1) winner Joking and Fort Marcy S. (G3) winner Ironicus.
