Speight Swiftly stars on Churchill Downs turf

WinStar-bred Speight Swiftly, a full brother to WinStar stallion Speightster, by Speightstown, turned in a sparkling effort over the Churchill Downs turf on Wednesday, winning by five lengths in front-running style.

The Live Oak Plantation colt covered the one-mile in 1:35.74 on the firm lawn, drawing off in the stretch after maintaining a one-length lead for the first six furlongs (VIDEO).

The beautifully bred 4-year-old is out of Dance Swiftly, who is also the dam of stakes winners West Coast Swing and Paiota Falls, in addtion to Speightster.

Dance Swiftly is a full sister to three-time Canadian champion and Breeders’ Cup Distaff (G1) winner Dance Smartly, with other siblings including Grade 1 winners Smart Strike and Full of Wonder and Grade 2 winner Strike Smartly.

Live Oak was Speight Swiftly’s winning bidder, at $500,000, at the 2015 OBS March 2-year-old Sale. With his debut maiden win at Gulfstream Park in March, Speight Swiftly is now 2-for-2 and has earned $53,400.
