Speightster colts score maiden wins at Los Alamitos and Turfway

Top-10 First-Crop sire Speightster now has a dozen freshman winners after Western Rule and Etu Babou both broke their maidens at Los Alamitos and Turfway Park, respectively.

Western Rule, who was making his first start, took the lead about half way through the 5 1/2-furlong affair, holding off Pizza Charlie by a neck. Bred in California by Gallop Out Racing LLC, Western Rule is owned by BG Stables. The chestnut juvenile is out of the stakes winner Rockella.

Etu Babou was a rallying winner on Dec. 5 in his two-length win going a mile on the synthetic surface. The chestnut colt races for Jim and Susan Hill and was bred in Kentucky by Melinda Smith Pegasus Stud LLC. Eut Babou’s dam Etoufee is a half-sister to four-time graded stakes winner Nannerl.

Speightster, the sire of stakes winners Dreaming of Drew and That Kenney Kid, bred 152 mares in 2020 and will stand next year for $10,000 S&N.
