Speightstown colt racks up third black type win

Full Salute took to the Monmouth Park turf course Sunday and came away with a one-length victory in the $60,000 Select S., the third added-money victory for the 3-year-old Speightstown colt.

The chestnut speedster sat just off the early pace before assuming command with a furlong to run, holding off Easy River to complete the 5 ½ furlongs in 1:03.02 on a firm turf.

“When I was on him last time we had to go to the lead, but this time I didn’t want to gun it coming out of there,” said winning jockey Paco Lopez.  “It was the perfect trip in behind horses and he was just the best horse in the race.”

Full Salute upped is lifetime mark of 5-3-0 from 10 starts, with earnings of $260,235 for owner Morris Bailey. Trained by Eddie Plesa, Jr., Full Salute also has victories in the Buffalo Man S. and Hall of Fame S. last year.

With seven stakes winners to date, Speightstown’s 2016 progeny earnings have topped the $3.2 million mark.
