Take Charge Indy represented by first foals since returning to WinStar

The first two foals by Take Charge Indy have been born since he returned home to stand the 2020 breeding season at WinStar Farm. The first foal born was a colt out of the multiple stakes-placed mare Northern Smile foaled in Kentucky on Jan. 4 and bred by Jim Ballinger. The second foal was born at WinStar on Jan. 17. Bred by Bob Baron, the colt is produced from the Tiznow mare Tiz Cecile.

Take Charge Indy was a leading Fourth-Crop Sire of 2020 with progeny earnings of more than $3.2 million. He was the No. 1 Third-Crop Sire of 2019 by earnings, black type winners, and Grade 1 stakes horses, led by Long Range Toddy, winner of the Rebel S. (G2), Motion Emotion, winner of the $250,000 Zia Park Oaks, and Classic-placed Everfast, second in the Preakness S. (G1). Take Charge Indy was the No. 1 Second-Crop Sire of 2018 by stakes wins with 10, led by Noble Indy, winner of the Louisiana Derby (G2), and Take Charge Paula, winner of the Forward Gal S. (G3). In 2017, he was one of only three first-crop sires to have progeny earnings in excess of $1 million.

A regally-bred son of Hall of Fame Champion and top sire of sires A.P. Indy out of multiple Grade 1 winner, Graded stakes producer, and Broodmare of the Year Take Charge Lady, Take Charge Indy was a Grade 1-winning millionaire who was a Graded performer from ages two to four. At two, he won his debut by 6 ½ lengths and placed in the Arlington-Washington Futurity (G3). At three, he captured the Florida Derby (G1) and finished second to older horses in the Clark H. (G1), and the following season he won the Alysheba S. (G2) at Churchill Downs.
