Tammy the Torpedo fires big in Suwanee River S. (G3)

More Than Ready got his newest graded stakes winner on Saturday at Gulfstream Park as 4-year-old Tammy the Torpedo led the entire way to take the $150,000 Suwanee River S. (G3).

More Than Ready, who has more than 150 lifetime stakes winners worldwide, now has 66 graded winners. The WinStar stallion already has four stakes winners in 2016, including a trio of graded black type victors.

Tammy the Torpedo, who won the Tropical Park Oaks on Dec. 19, repeated that performance on Saturday, taking the lead soon after the start, disposing of early pursuer Uchenna after six fulrongs, then comfortably held off a late charge Rainha Da Bateria to get the 1 1/8-miles in 1:48.28 on a firm turf.

“(Jockey Joel Rosario) used his judgment on the first turn and rolled out decent fractions and the filly showed a lot of heart to kick on and run home,” trainer Chad Brown said. “They were honest enough fractions. It’s listed as firm but we did get a little rain earlier. When you’re going 12 and change going three-quarters, she’s going honest fractions, and she still kicked home. She ran terrific.”

Tammy the Torpedo has now won four of her seven starts as well as running third in last year’s Miss Grillo S. (G3). She has banked $254,710 for co-owners Long Lake Stable LLC and Beacon Hill Thoroughbreds.
