Tammy the Torpedo scores second career graded stakes win

Tammy the Torpedo notched her second graded stakes win of the year on Saturday when the 4-year-old More Than Ready filly rallied for a half-length win in the $100,000 Violet S. (G3) at Monmouth Park.

More Than Ready, sire of more than 70 lifetime graded stakes winners, ranks in the top 20 on this year’s General Sire list with more than 90 winners and $5.4 million in progeny earnings to date.

Tammy the Torpedo got the ideal trip under Antonio Gallardo, tracking in third most of the way before unleashing a three-wide rally in the stretch, ultimately collaring All in Fun in the final sixteenth to secure the win.

“My filly broke really sharply, but I knew the three horse [Isabella Sings] has a lot of speed so there was no point in letting her run with her early,” said Gallardo. “I just put her in behind horses and tried to get her to relax and save up for the last three-eighths. When I asked her to run, she took off.”

Tammy the Torpedo is now 5-1-1 in 11 starts and has earned $355,530 for her owners Long Lake Stable LLC and Beacon Hill Thoroughbreds LLC.  She originally sold for $225,000 at the 2014 OBS Spring 2-year-old sale.
