More Than Ready got his eighth stakes winner of the year on July 13 when Thanks Mr. Eidson made his way between horses and the top of the stretch to win the $100,000 William Garrett S. at Horseshoe Indianapolis.
Normally much closer to the pace, Thanks Mr. Eidson was eighth after a blazing quarter-mile in :21.10. He began to gain ground on the turn and was about three lengths from the lead coming into the stretch. After splitting horses, he went to the three path and ran past Charcoal in the final furlong to win by three-quarters of a length in a new stakes record of :55.43 on the firm turf.
“He naturally goes to the lead, but he didn’t go today so we waited and took advantage of the hole in the turn,” said winning rider Geovanni Franco. “He got more and more comfortable on the turf as we went, and I think that definitely helped.”
Coupled with his May 30th allowance win at Churchill Downs, Thanks Mr. Eidson has posted two consecutive 94 Beyer Speed Figures. He is owned by Del Secco DCS Racing and is now 4-6-6 in 23 starts, earning $342, 606. He was stakes-placed four times while campaigning in California.
The winner was bred by Dell Ridge Farm and sold for $210,000 at the 2018 Keeneland September sale.
