Tiznow colt picks up first stakes victory

Smokin Now led all the way in Friday’s $65,000 Golden Circle S. at Prairie Meadows to give the 3-year-old Tiznow colt his first stakes win in his black type debut.

The Mercedes Stables LLC homebred covered the six furlongs on a muddy racetrack in a solid 1:10.40, winning by 2 3/4-lengths (VIDEO).

Smokin Now’s dam Smokey Glacken was a five-time graded stakes winner and earned $656,960. She is also a half-sister to 1997 Champion Sprinter Smoke Glacken.

Tiznow’s excellent week has included the $2.45 million sales-topper at the OBS Spring Sale of 2-year-olds in Training and the final prep work for Kentucky Derby (G1) contender and Blue Grass S. (G2)  Irap, who worked a mile on Friday at Keeneland.
