Wednesday report: Keeneland $220K yearling for Gemologist

A yearling colt from Gemologist’s second crop at the Wednesday session of the Keeneland September brought a winning bid of $220,000 from Mike Ryan, agent. The price was the second-highest paid during the session.

Cataloged as hip No. 2717,  the bay juvenile was consigned by Cross Keys Sales LLC, agent. The colt is out of the Distorted Humor mare Whimsical Miss and is a half-brother to the stakes-placed colt Drakarys.

Through the first nine days of the auction that runs through Sept. 25, Gemologist’s $400,000 colt from Day 2 is the second-highest price paid this year for a yearling colt by all sires in his generation.
