Well Humored sets stakes record in Wayward Lass S.

Well Humored gave WinStar Stablemates Racing LLC a huge thrill with her record-setting performance in Saturday’s $50,000 Wayward Lass S. at Tampa Bay Downs.

The 4-year-old Distorted Humor filly, also bred by WinStar, finished the 1 1/16-miles in 1:43.86, just eclipsing the former mark of 1:43.87 set three years ago by Awesome Flower.

Saturday’s victory didn’t come easy for Well Humored, who tracked in third for the first six furlongs, then had to run down stakes winner Tapa Tapa Tapa in deep stretch to win by three-quarters of a length.

“She is really determined and she has some talent, obviously,” said winning trainer Arnaud Delacour, who pointed out that Well Humored is also related to WinStar’s 2009 Dubai World Cup (G1) hero Well Armed. “She is like a free spirit. We always have to go by what she wants to do, it seems, but all credit to her for winning and (setting the stakes record).”

Well Humored has won three of four starts and has now earned $91,350. Out of Well Armed’s sister Life Well Lived, Well Humored is a half-brother to American Patriot, the Maker’s Mile (G1) winner who WinStar also bred and raced.
