WinStar Farm sets 2020 stud fees

WinStar Farm has set 2020 stud fees for its 21-stallion roster, headed by perennial leading sire More Than Ready who will stand for an unchanged fee of $80,000 S&N this upcoming breeding season. WinStar also welcomes new stallions to its roster in Florida Derby (G1) winner Audible who will stand his initial season at stud for $25,000 S&N, and leading Breeders’ Cup Classic (G1) contender Yoshida (JPN), whose fee is to be determined.

The roster is further bolstered by leading First-Crop Sire Constitution, whose fee has moved to $40,000 S&N, Kentucky Derby (G1) winner Always Dreaming who will stand his second season for $25,000 S&N, and the No. 1 Third-Crop Sire Take Charge Indy who is returning to WinStar and will stand for $17,500 S&N.

“We’re excited to welcome such outstanding stallion prospects in Audible and Yoshida to WinStar for 2020,” said Liam O’Rourke. “They join our rising superstars Constitution and Take Charge Indy, along with some of the most accomplished and proven stallions available in the world. We’re proud to offer a wide variety of elite stallions at good value to our breeders.”

Two-time Derby winner Always Dreaming will be represented with his first foals in 2020. Winner of the 2017 Kentucky Derby and Florida Derby (G1) and hailing from the dominant Unbridled sire line, the $2.4 million dollar earner represents four straight generations of a sire line that finished first or second in the Kentucky Derby.

Audible, a son of leading sire Into Mischief, was one of the most consistent 3-year-olds of his generation. Never off the board in five stakes with three stakes wins, Audible was a romping winner of the Holy Bull S. (G2) at Gulfstream Park. He earned a berth in the 2018 Kentucky Derby with another eye-catching performance, winning the Florida Derby by three lengths over the likes of subsequent Grade 1 winners Catholic Boy and Promises Fulfilled. Ranked No. 3 on the Road to the Kentucky Derby leaderboard, Audible finished a determined third in the Derby behind eventual undefeated Triple Crown winner Justify after being repeatedly blocked and altering course in the stretch. Audible heads to stud after banking $2,130,520.

Constitution is the No. 1 Freshman Sire with progeny earnings to date of $1,403,767. The son of Tapit is represented by Tiz the Law, winner of the prestigious Champagne S. (G1); Sorrento S. (G2) winner Amalfi Sunrise; Sanford S. (G3) winner By Your Side, as well as Breeders’ Futurity (G1) runner-up Gouverneur Morris, and Pilgrim S. (G3)-placed Our Country. He is the only freshman sire with three TDN Rising Stars in 2019: Gouverneur Morris, a nine-length winner at Saratoga, Aurelia Garland, a five-length winner at Belmont, and Amalfi Sunrise, a 6 ¼-length winner at Santa Anita.

Take Charge Indy returns to WinStar for the 2020 breeding season. The 10-year-old regally-bred son of A.P. Indy out of multiple Grade 1 winner, Graded stakes producer, and Broodmare of the Year Take Charge Lady, leads all third-crop sires in 2019 with more than $4.9 million in progeny earnings. His top runners include Long Range Toddy, winner of the Rebel S. (G2); Preakness S. (G1) and Holy Bull S. (G2) runner-up Everfast, and multiple Graded stakes-placed Motion Emotion.

Yoshida, a Grade 1 winner on both dirt and turf and an earner of more than $2.4 million, is a leading contender for the $6,000,000 Breeders’ Cup Classic (G1) at Santa Anita Nov. 2. Yoshida is a son of leading Japanese sire and Champion Heart’s Cry (by dual Classic winner Sunday Silence), out of a brilliant track record-setting sprinter from the Gone West sire line, Hilda’s Passion, winner of the Ballerina S. (G1). Yoshida captured the 2018 Woodward S. (G1) in his first career start on dirt against the largest field in the 66-year history of the race. In annexing the Turf Classic S. (G1) at Churchill, he defeated eight Graded stakes winners, including three Grade 1 winners. This year he finished second to McKinzie in the Whitney S. (G1), earning a 108 Beyer Speed Figure in the second-fastest Whitney since 1955.
