Wilson Q made his debut a winning one in the Thursday opener at Churchill Downs, fending off a pair of foes in a five-furlong, $120,000 maiden special weight race for 2-year-olds.

Constitution has had a pair of juveniles start this year, and both have registered victories. Constitution has six stakes winners to date in 2023, most recently Webslinger in the American Turf S. (G2) and Warrant in the Isaac Murphy Marathon S., both during Derby Week at Churchill Downs.

Wilson Q, owned by the Del Mar Group, took a liking to the Churchill surface as well. He broke sharply to be head-to-head for the lead with Works for Me. Those two would battle until inside the final sixteenth, when Wilson Q edged clear, then dug in gamely to hold off the charge of Gold Sweep to win by a neck in :57.92 on a fast track.

The winner was bred by Runnymede Farm and Peter J. Callahan and sold to his owners for $100,000 at the 2022 Keeneland September Yearling sale. Wilson Q hails from the family of 1991 Kentucky Derby (G1) winner Strike the Gold and graded winner Greydar.
