Constitution’s Surveillance finds stakes success in $175,000 Thanksgiving Classic S.

Constitution got his second stakes winner in as many days on Nov. 24 when Surveillance prevailed by a half-length in the $175,000 Thanksgiving Classic S. at Fair Grounds (WATCH RACE).

The easy-to-spot gray 5-year-old was between horses a few lengths from the lead through a quarter-mile in :22.12. He shifted to the outside and was three-wide while still three lengths from the front at the top of the stretch. With a determined run, he struck the front with a sixteenth to go and held off Heart Rhythm for the win.

The final time for the six furlongs was a solid 1:09.93.

“(Surveillance) can be a little bit tricky,” winning rider James Graham said. “I was happy where I was sitting (coming out of the turn), and when I squeezed him, he went. He didn’t slow down much coming toward the wire.”

Owned by Big Chief Racing, Rocker O Ranch, and Keith Desormeaux, Surveillance now has $346,367 in lifetime earnings and a career record of 20-4-3-5. He was bred in Kentucky by Kendall Hansen Racing LLC.

Surveillance is one of 13 stakes winners this year for Constitution, which leads the Fourth-Crop sire list. The WinStar stallion also tops the list by stakes horses (31), graded stakes horses (17) and Grade One stakes horses (4). Constitution will stand the 2023 season for $110,000 S&N.
