Champion Sprinter Speightstown has long been one of North America’s most prolific and most versatile stakes sires, and he is now an important sire of sires and broodmare sire. Speightstown has enjoyed remarkable success with Sadler’s Wells mares, particularly with daughters of Medaglia d’Oro, a cross that has produced such G1Ws as Rock Fall and Competitionofideas. He also has a GSW out of a mare by Medaglia d’Oro’s sire, El Prado, and one out of another son, Kitten’s Joy. There has also been success with mares by Galileo and Perfect Soul. Other branches of Northern Dancer to excel under Speightstown include Danzig (with Belong to Me, Langfuhr, Hard Spun, Danehill, and Dayjur among successful broodmare sires, which also suggests War Front); Deputy Minister (including Awesome Again, Ghostzapper, French Deputy, and Silver Deputy); and Nureyev, through Theatrical. There are eight SWs by Speightstown out of mares by A.P. Indy, and from this line, he’s also enjoyed success with mares by Bernardini and Tapit, the broodmare sire of his G1W Lexitonian. There are two SWs, one G1, by Speightstown out of mares by Indian Charlie, which suggests trying mares by Uncle Mo and sons. Out of mares from his own Mr. Prospector line, Speightstown has the brilliant Charlatan out of a mare by Quiet American, from the Fappiano branch. He has also enjoyed success with Mr. Prospector through Distorted Humor, Lemon Drop Kid, Seeking the Gold and Street Cry. – Alan Porter
