Top-10 Third-Crop sire Outwork wrapped up an excellent month of September when his 4-year-old daughter Finest Work captured the $125,000 John Hettinger S. on the final day of the month at Aqueduct.

The WinStar stallion kicked off the month in style when his 2-year-old filly Leave No Trace became his first Grade 1 winner with a victory in the Sept. 4 Spinaway S. (G1) at Saratoga. Also tallying a pair of stakes performers in September, Outwork now has a total of eight stakes horses in 2022.

Finest Work, who was making her stakes debut for trainer George Weaver, set about a half-dozen lengths off the pace through the first half of Friday’s 1 1/8-mile turf affair. She made a bold five-wide move on the turn to be within a length of the lead at the top of the stretch.

After quickly surging to the front, she dug in the rest of the way to hold off the late charge of Marvelous Maude to win by a half-length in 1:48.50 on the firm turf.

Finest Work, owned by Ted Hoover, has won four of her five starts this year and is 5-2-2 in 11 lifetime outings. Her earnings stand at $272,050.

Finest Work was bred by Repole Stable. She is one of three foals out of Nero’s Pleasure, who is a half-sister to Grade 1 winner and $1.5 million earner Burning Roma.
