Recognized for their excellent 2020 results that saw four WinStar Farm-bred horses win five Grade 1 races, the farm was named Eclipse Award winner as Breeder of the Year during Thursday evening’s ceremony.
It was the farm’s third overall Eclipse Award and its second for outstanding breeder, the first for breeder in 2016.
WinStar’s Grade 1 winners were Global Campaign in the Woodward H. (G1), Swiss Skydiver in the Preakness (G1) and Alabama S. (G1), Shedaresthedevil in the Kentucky Oaks (G1), with Swiss Skydiver second in that race, and Paris Lights in the Coaching Club American Oaks.
Overall, the farm’s runners were responsible for winning 148 races and more than $9.2 million in earnings.
Owned by Kenny Troutt since 2010, WinStar won its first Eclipse as owner after taking the 2010 Kentucky Derby (G1) with Super Saver and the Belmont S. (G1) with Drosselmeyer. WinStar also was part owner of 2018 Horse of the Year Justify and this year’s Older Male award winner Improbable.
