WinStar Farm is glad to open its gates to horse racing fans and enthusiasts but please remember that WinStar is a privately owned, working Thoroughbred horse farm. We schedule tours of our stallion complex around the routines of our horses and employees. All tours of WinStar Farm are booked through Horse Country Inc.
See the information below on how to book your tour!
Stallion Complex Tour
This tour is available on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays year-round and Monday thru Saturday November – March.
See a selection of the stallions of our all-star roster, including Kentucky Derby winner Always Dreaming., and many other champions! Guests will be able walk through our state-of-the-art stallion barn and get a glimpse of the day-to-day life of each of our stallions. Guests then receive a tour of our breeding shed, where our stallions collectively breed 2,500+ mares a year.
*Note, as described this is a stallion-focused experience, and does not tour outside the stallion complex. Our extended shuttle tour drives through the farm and is available seasonally*
Extended Shuttle Tour
This tour is available seasonally from April – October on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays
This two-hour tour allows guests to first see the stallions of our all-star roster and walk through our state-of- the-art stallion barn to get a glimpse of the day-to-day life of each of our stallions. Guests then receive a tour of our breeding shed. Afterwards, guests will climb aboard our brand-new electric shuttle and see all the beauty the rest of the farm has to offer. Driving tour includes foaling barn and broodmare barns as well as some of the historic sites on the farm.
Guests participating on the Shuttle Tour will be expected to remain in the shuttle for the duration of the experience, with all hands and feet kept inside. However, there will still be ample opportunities to capture the beauty of the farm–be sure to bring your camera to take as many photos as you’d like! The Shuttle Tour experience will vary seasonally, offering a unique look at a working horse farm at every time of year. Foals are out earlier in the year and through the summer, and yearling prep begins late summer.
We do our best to let fans meet our stallions; however, there are no guarantees that can be made for any stallion on any particular tour. Showings depend on the health and daily activities of our stallions.
The Tiznow Experience
The only horse to ever win the Breeders’ Cup Classic TWICE!
This is your chance to meet the famous Tiznow! Take a picture with Tiznow and feed him some peppermints; meet his best son at stud, Tourist, as well as some of our other top broodmares by Tiznow; watch his race replays; you may even have the chance to meet and hear stories about Tiznow’s career at stud from the man who knows him best: longtime stallion manager, Larry McGinnis (not guaranteed, but we’ll try!).
Your group will even receive a goodie bag of specialty Tiznow merchandise. The price is a flat fee for a group of up to 10. We look forward to welcoming you!
Exclusive Private Tour
Our unique private experience takes a tour of some of the many different aspects of the industry WinStar is involved in, starting at our stallion complex, guests will have the opportunity to meet the stallions, learn about breeding, how these horses earned their way into our stallion barn and even get to give a stallion a peppermint. Guests will then get to tour some of our other divisions, they will have the chance to see mares, foals, stallions, yearlings, and racehorses depending on the season.
One of the stops unique to this tour is our state of the art training center, including our track, hyperbaric chamber, and other equipment that helps keep our racehorses in top condition. We will stop by our office where guests will get to see some of the awards, trophies, and saddle cloths we have been awarded including Derby trophies, and the Triple Crown trophy that we won in 2018 with Justify. At the conclusion of this tour guests will receive a take home item of WinStar merchandise.
Custom private experiences are available, ideal for wedding parties, engagements and other special occasions.
Requests to be made through Horse Country.
Private Yearling Sales Prep Experience
Learn about what it takes to get a thoroughbred yearling ready for sales! Join us in walking through a morning with the yearlings as they are prepared for upcoming yearling sales. WinStar sends about 100 yearlings to the sales every year and there’s a lot that goes into getting them ready. This tour provides an inside look into the daily process of prepping a yearling for the sales.
We will start out at the barn where we will see the yearlings come inside for the morning to begin their daily routine and end at the swimming pool where we swim them for daily exercise.
Hear from our longtime yearling manager, Donnie Preston, who has been at WinStar for over 20 years about how he likes to put the foundation, or basic training, on his yearlings and ask him questions as we go.
Private Life is Good Experience
This is your chance to spend an afternoon with the fastest son of leading sire Into Mischief, Life is Good! Winner of the G1 Breeders Cup Dirt Mile, G1 Pegasus World Cup, G1 Whitney S., and G1 Woodward, Life is Good retired with over $4.5 million in earnings and 9 triple digit Beyer Speed Figures.
You have the opportunity to spend time up close and personal with one of the best racehorses to ever retire to the WinStar breeding shed!
Give this champion a few peppermints and take a picture with Life is Good, plus you will watch his race replays and learn a few of his quirks.
Private Training Center Experience
This behind-the-scenes tour of WinStar will take guests to our exclusive training center! Watch the horses train in the morning on our very own dirt training track from the clocker’s stand with a cup of coffee and a donut in hand. Not only will you learn about the makings of this racetrack and the WinStar racing operation, you will also get to see it firsthand in action!
After watching our morning workouts, you will get an inside look at our state-of-the-art rehab facilities including the underwater aquatred, saltwater spa, hyperbaric chamber and theraplate. See up close how we strive to keep our equine athletes in peak performance!

We do not allow guests to get close enough to touch mares and foals, on a farm of our size biosecurity measures have to be taken to ensure the health and safety of our horses.
We cannot guarantee that you will see all the stallions, each has their own schedule and specific needs that may change day to day, and we have to prioritize the stallions care, if you would like to see a particular stallion please mention it and we will do our best to accommodate your request.
Yes! Be sure to follow the guidelines indicated by your tour guide but you may have your picture taken with the stallions.
The only tour that goes to the training center is the exclusive private tour, this tour gets to see the racetrack as well as the rehab facilities.
The Visit WinStar tour is a stallion barn only tour. The Extended Shuttle Tour starts out the same as a regular stallion barn tour and then guests get a tour of the farm on the shuttle.
Our two private experiences are very different, The Tiznow Experience is recommended for Tiznow fans, the tour is very focused on Tiznow and getting up close and personal with America’s racehorse. Our Exclusive private tour gets to see a bit of everything, we meet the stallions and tour the stallion barn, tour the farm including our training center and rehab and then stop by the office to check out our trophies. See tour descriptions for more details.
Horse Country will send you a confirmation email that includes detailed instructions. The address is 2065 Paynes Mill Rd, Versailles (breeding shed entrance). The address doesn’t always take you to the correct gate depending on which navigation app you use and WinStar is a very big farm with many entrances so please be sure to read the instructions carefully. If you put WinStar Farm into your GPS it will not take you to the right place.
For safety and liability reasons we cannot get off the shuttle or go into mare/foal barns. We enjoy getting to show people the farm and share the joy of it with guests, but the welfare of our horses and our staff are our top priority.
Tour times are set based on the schedules of our staff and horses, so the times are fixed. On public tours we cannot wait for you if you are late to be fair to the other people on the tour who arrived on time.
