Hold Me Back, a top-five Freshman Sire of winners, collected his fifth on Saturday as Kutuzov prevailed in a maiden special weight contest on the grass at Gulfstream Park.
Well-placed early, Kutuzov loomed largely coming three wide into the stretch, ultimately striking the front inside the final furlong to win by a length in :56.85 for the five furlongs on a firm turf course.
Kutuzov is a half-brother to Grade 3 Royal North S. winner Vestrey Lady and is from the same family as the top sprinter and sire Mr. Greeley. Kutuzov was bought by his owner Raut LLC for $50,000 at the 2013 Fasig-Tipton Kentucky Summer Yearling sale.
