Good Samaritan filly keeps finding more in maiden special weight win

O Shaughesey repelled a late challenge to earn her first victory Saturday in a five-furlong maiden special weight affair at Laurel Park.

The 2-year-old filly is the third winner from Good Samaritan’s first crop of runners, with all three coming in maiden special weight races. The WinStar stallion has four MdSpWt entries over the next two days.

O Shaughesey was third as she chased through a quarter-mile in :22.52. She held her spot rounding the turn before being roused while three-wide coming into the stretch. She struck the front with a furlong to run, then dug in gamely to hold off Free Admission by a neck in :59.77 on a fast main track.

The winner was a $155,000 purchase at the 2022 OBS Spring 2-year-old sale in April. She is owned by Michael Dubb and Morris Bailey and was bred by Jay Goodwin, Meredith Krupp, Deann Baer and Cloyce Clark, Jr. The deep female family includes the likes of graded stakes winner Speightster under her third dam, and the Hall of Famer and Canadian Triple Crown winner Dance Smartly, Grade 1 winners Full of Wonder and Smart Strike, all under her fourth dam Classy ‘n Smart.

Good Samaritan, a graded stakes winner at 2, 3 and 4, proudly carries on the lineage of his sire Harlan’s Holiday. He stood at WinStar this past year for $7,500 S&N.
