Tourist colt sets track record in first stakes victory

Carpenters Call turned in a dynamic performance to get his first stakes win in Monday’s $100,000 Peach Street S. at Presque Isle Downs, setting a track record for the 1 mile and 70 yard event while winning by 1 ¼-lengths.

The 4-year-old Tourist colt has had a very productive year in 2022, with four wins thus far, finishing a close third in the Appleton S. (G3), and losing by just four lengths in the Grade One United Nations S., where he earned a career-high Beyer Speed Figure of 97.

In the Peach Street, Carpenters Call was well-placed in fifth early on, and held his spot through six furlongs in 1:10.76. When asked for his best with just under three furlongs to run, he came four-wide into the stretch and gained steadily on the leaders before striking the front with under a furlong to go. He forged clear late to stop the timer in 1:38.97 on the synthetic surface.

Owned by Diversified Pedigree Acquisitions, Inc., Carpenters Call is 5-2-1 in 11 starts and has earned $164,710.

Carpenters Call was bred in Kentucky by Cerca Trova.

Tourist, the fastest winner in the history of the Breeders’ Cup Mile (G1), stood the 2022 season at WinStar Farm for $5,000 S&N.
