Bayerd battles to first stakes win

Speightstown’s speedy 2-year-old colt Bayerd dueled through the entire six furlongs of the $75,000 Kip Deville S. to emerge victorious by one length in Sunday’s contest at Remington Park.

Bayerd was head and head with Nublado Bling basically the whole way, willing himself to the front in the final strides to win by a length in an excellent 1:09.91 on the fast track (VIDEO).

Bayerd, who broke his maiden by nearly a dozen lengths Aug. 23 at Saratoga, has now won two of three starts and earned $112,100 for owner Clark Brewster. The bay colt is the second foal out of two-times stakes winner Cherokee Jewel.

Bayerd is Speightstown’s 13th stakes winner this year, with his progeny earnings nearing the $6.9 million mark, ranking him in the top 10 on the General Sire List.
