Runhappy runaway Eclipse Sprint Champion

Super Saver’s outstanding speedster Runhappy came home with the first Eclipse Award for his sire when he was named 2015’s Champion Sprinter at the Eclipse Awards ceremony on Saturday evening at Gulfstream Park.

Runhappy’s undefeated season culminated with a 3-1/2 length victory in the Malibu S. (G1) on Dec. 26 at Santa Anita.

His Breeders’ Cup Sprint (G1) win at Keeneland likely sewed up his divisional championship. He came into the Sprint with wins in the Phoenix S. (G1) and King’s Bishop S. (G1) already on his resume. The 3-year-old colt, owned by Jim McIngvale, has won seven of eight lifetime starts and has earned $1,481,300.

I want to thank the Runhappy team, there is no “I” in team, and they live that every day. (Runhappy) makes every day better for all of us,” said McIngvale in accepting the award.

Super Saver had won of the best seasons of any Second-Crop sire in 2015, leading in the categories of graded stakes winners, Grade 1 winners and Grade 1 horses and ranking second by progeny earnings. He is standing the 2016 season at WinStar Farm for $65,000 live foal, stands and nurses.
