Cool Cowboy garners another stakes win

Cool Cowboy, a 3-year-old Kodiak Kowboy colt, earned his second lifetime stakes victory Friday night at Prairie Meadows with a solid 5 1/4-length win in the $75,000 Golden Circle S. As a 2-year-old old, Cool Cowboy took $100,000 Inaugural S. in December at Tampa Bay Downs.

Pretty well in control the entire six furlongs, Cool Cowboy took the lead in the Golden Circle when they sprung the latch, zipping through a half-mile in :45.25 before rolling home in 1:08.84 for a lifetime-best Beyer Speed Figure of 98 (VIDEO).

The victory was the fourth in seven lifetime starts for the Kentucky-bred son of Grand Breeze, and has earned $135,335 for his owner, John Santina’s Savoy Stable, LLC. Brent Fernung paid $110,000 for Cool Cowboy on behalf of Santina at the 2012 Keeneland September Yearling Sale.

As he was in 2013 as a freshman sire, Kodiak Kowboy is once again in the top 5 on this year’s Kentucky Second Crop sire list. A multiple graded stakes winner in all three years he competed, Kodiak Kowboy is standing this year at WinStar for $5,000 live foal.
