Nineteenamendment rallied strongly through the stretch of the Laurel Park turf course to win the $100,000 Dahlia S. on April 19.
The victory was the first stakes win for the 5-year-old mare and also pushed Constitution past the $60 million mark for lifetime North American progeny earnings. Currently seventh on the 2025 General Sire list, Constitution has five stakes winners and nearly $4 million in earnings this term.
Under the guidance of Paco Lopez, Nineteenamendment sat patiently off the early pace with Di’s Surprise leading through a half-mile of :48.57. The pacesetter still had the lead turning for home after a relatively easy six furlongs in 1:12.88, but Nineteenamendment was hitting her best stride and took over with about a sixteenth to go, then drew clear to win handily by 1 ½-lengths, with her last eighth-mile in a very swift :11.81.
“I’m over the top with how well she ran,” trainer Michael Trombetta said in the winner’s circle. “She’s evolving. She’s kind of forward and wants to run on, but [Lopez] made her just wait. I think once he got her through the first quarter, then things settled in for him.”
The victory pushed the winner’s record to 5-4-3 in 16 starts, with earnings of $311,925. Nineteenamendment is owned by the Estate of Larry Johnson and was bred by Legacy Farm.
