First 2-year-olds by Nashville command attention at OBS March

Hip 71, OBS March Sale, 2026

WinStar Farm’s freshman 2-year-old sire Nashville had a successful showing of his first crop at this past week’s OBS March Sale, which included Day 1’s session-topping filly that brought $550,000, and a Day 3 colt that commanded $525,000.

Purchased by William K. Werner from the RM Stables consignment, the session-topping filly was listed as Hip 71, and breezed an eighth-mile in 9.4 at the under tack show. She is out of the Fusaichi Pegasus mare Kencho, who has produced four other progeny of racing age, all of which are winners. She was bred by Victoria Ocampo & Hillary Ocampo.

On Day 3, Nashville’s Ontario-bred colt out of the Tapit mare Closet Shopper (Hip 671) went to Vincent Viola’s St. Elias Stable for $525,000. Consigned by Twelve Toes and bred by Apricot Valley Thoroughbreds, the colt’s second dam Duke’s Dream is a full-sister to Grade 1-winner Sweet Lulu, and a half-sister to Graded stakes winners Iron Fist and Anchor Down. She breezed an eighth-mile in 10 seconds flat at the under tack show.

Over all, Nashville had a total of 13 2-year-olds bring six-figure sums. Other noteworthy buys for Nashville included a colt that was bought by Justin Casse and JWS Racing for $335,000, and a $275,000 colt purchased by Golden Star Farm.
