Twinkle Town, a 2-year-old son of Take Charge Indy, is now undefeated in two starts after a commanding six-length score in Saturday’s $250,000 Saratoga Special (G2).
The gray/roan juvenile broke his maiden by a similar margin in his June 27 debut at Churchill Downs. Owned by Four G Racing LLC, Twinkle Town has earned $205,996 and is the fifth graded stakes winner for Take Charge Indy.
A swift start saw Twinkle Town take a narrow lead over Booked as he sped through a quarter-mile in :21.82. After a half in :45.26, Twinkle Town still held a slim advantage, then after turning for home he began to increase the margin. He found yet another gear in the final furlong, bounding away to finish the 6 ½-furlongs in 1:16.44 on a fast track.
“It’s a little bit out of my game to have a 2-year-old go :21 and change and keep going, right,” said winning trainer Ken McPeek, who also trained Take Charge Indy’s dam, MGISW and Broodmare of the Year Take Charge Lady. “I think he is definitely a two-turn horse, but we’re going to have to retool him a little bit at the end of the year or later in the year into next year. He’s just naturally talented.”

Four G also bred Twinkle Town, along with Lance and Clint Gasaway. The Kentucky-bred is the first foal out of the stakes-placed mare Southern Grayce.
