Supercharger the newest graded stakes winner for Constitution

Top-10 General sire Constitution got his 44th lifetime graded stakes winner in dramatic fashion Saturday in the $500,000 Secretariat S. (G2) at Colonial Downs when Supercharger got a perfectly-timed ride from Manny Franco to score by a half-length in the 1 1/16-mile turf race for 3-year-olds.

Winner of a maiden special weight and allowance on the turf in his two prior starts, Supercharger was unhurried early and sat near the back of the field for the first six furlongs before launching a bid around the final bend. Going around horses while four wide, Supercharger still had five lengths to make up at the top of the stretch. He kicked into high gear inside the final furlong to surge past Alpyland and hold off Infiltrate for the victory.

“It was Manny first time on him, but these guys at the top level, like Manny and others, it’s seamless when they get on,” said trainer Cherie DeVaux. “They do their homework, they listen to feedback and they execute it perfectly.”

With his first stakes victory, Supercharger is now 3-1-0 in six starts and has earned $467,709 for owner C R K Stable LLC.  The bay colt was bred in Kentucky by Ron & Deborah McAnally.
