Movie Night surges to win Keeneland’s Raven Run S. (G2)

WinStar Farm LLC’s homebred 3-year-old filly turned in her best performance to date in Saturday’s $400,000 Raven Run S. at Keeneland, powering past game front-runner Mythical in the final sixteenth to earn her first stakes win.

After a very close third in last month’s Dogwood S. (G3) at Churchill Downs, Movie Night was poised for a big effort in Saturday’s seven-furlong race. She came away well from post 10 and raced down the center of the track while moving from fifth to third in the first quarter-mile.
She advanced to second around the far turn to get within two lengths of Mythical at the top of the stretch.

Despite swift early fractions, Mythical held the lead until inside the final furlong, when Movie Night asserted herself and drew away smartly late to win by two lengths in 1:23.28 on a fast track.

“It was incredible,” said Preston Troutt, son of WinStar’s Kenny Troutt. “We knew she had talent; she ran a really good third in the Dogwood. When they went :45 and four turning for home [in today’s race], she was full of horse and just ran off with it. Unbelievable.

“I’m incredibly thankful to be part of the whole WinStar team. I’m excited for [trainer] Will [Walden]. He’s done a great job with the horse. She ran huge today.”

Movie Night is now 3-1-1 in six starts and has earned $425,965. The bay filly is a daughter of WinStar’s late super-sire Speightstown and is out of Savvy Star, who is also the dam of $2.3 million earner Stellify, currently targeting the Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Turf (G1).
