Promises Fulfilled will have his first starter in the Kentucky Oaks (G1) May 2nd at Churchill Downs when Anna’s Promise faces a full field in the 1 1/8-mile classic for 3-year-old fillies.
Anna’s Promise drew post 12 in the field of 14 and will be ridden by Junior Alvarado for trainer Carlos David.
The 3-year-old filly, who has been stabled at Gulfstream Park over the winter, began the year with a maiden-breaking win on Feb. 5, then came back to win a 1 1/16-mile allowance race on March 6. In her first stakes start, she was second to Five G in the Gulfstream Park Oaks (G2), finishing 10 lengths clear of the rest of the field.
Anna’s Promise wrapped up her serious Oaks training with a five-furlong move in 1:00 2/5 April 26 at Churchill. Owned by Bell Racing, she brings a record of 2-3-0 in eight starts, with earnings of $150,854, into Friday’s race.
Bred in Kentucky by Baron Thoroughbreds, LLC, Anna’s Promise is the first foal out of Caroline Lois. This is the family of multiple graded winner American Anthem as well as Banshee Breeze, who was champion 3-year-old filly and a five-time Grade 1 winner of nearly $3 million.
Promises Fulfilled, a brilliantly fast son of Preakness S. (G1) winner Shackleford, has also accounted for stakes winner Runnin On Promises and stakes-placed Sayucan this year. Promises Fulfilled stands in 2025 for $5,000 S&N.
