Always Dreaming kicks off Fasig-Tipton Midlantic 2yo Sale with $550,000 colt

Kentucky Derby (G1) winner Always Dreaming was an immediate hit during Monday’s opening session of the Fasig-Tipton Midlantic 2-year-old sale when his hip No. 11 sold for $550,000.

The price would stand at the end of the day as the third-highest paid for a colt during the session.

Consigned by Top Line Sales, LLC, agent for Marc Tacher’s Elusive Thoroughbreds and bred by WinStar Farm, the bay juvenile went to Jacob West Bloodstock for Robert & Lawana Low.

The colt had previous sold to Tacher for $40,000 at the 2021 Keeneland September Yearling sale.

“I think at the end of the day, he was one of the most talented horses that we’ve seen in quite some time,” West said of Always Dreaming. “For him to have done what all he did in a short amount of time speaks to the merit of the racehorse he was. And this horse reminded me of him physically. And I thought his breeze was outstanding.”

The colt had worked a quarter-mile in :21 2/5 seconds during the Under Tack show. He is out of stakes winner Saritta and from the family of graded winners Called to Serve and Behrens.

Always Dreaming, who also won the Florida Derby (G1) in the fastest time in 40 years, has done particularly well with his 2-year-old colts at auction this year, averaging $160,818.
