Americanrevolution a big winner in New York Derby

Constitution’s 3-year-old colt Americanrevolution turned the $150,000 New York Derby into a one-horse race in the stretch as he strutted to a 7 1/4-length victory in the 1 1/16-mile affair at Finger Lakes on July 19.

With a June 20 maiden win under his belt, Americanrevolution was the overwhelming favorite for trainer Todd Pletcher. He didn’t disappoint his backers as he moved from third to first on the final turn, then drew away at will to win under wraps.

Owned by WinStar Farm, the chestnut colt has won two of three starts and earned $134,035. In his only loss, he was fourth to Mandaloun in his debut last year.

Bred in Kentucky by Fred Hertrich III and John Fielding, the winner is out of a half-sister to two-time Korean champion Cheongdam Dokki  and shares a second dam with multiple graded winner Silver Dust. The family also includes two-time Grade 1 winner Stop Traffic.

Constitution’s stellar 2021 resume includes nine stakes winners and the earners of more than $5.4 million, both tops on this year’s Third-Crop Sire list.
