Artie Schiller 2yo rallies for big victory in $300,000 Juvenile at Kentucky Downs

Cajun Schill made his first foray outside of Florida a winning one with a stirring 1 ¾-length victory in the $300,000 Calumet Farm Juvenile S. Saturday afternoon at Kentucky Downs.

Trained by south Florida-based Bill Kaplan for Teresa and David Palmer, Cajun Schill scored by 5 ½-lengths in his maiden win on July 12, when he tried the turf for the first time in three starts.

Away somewhat slowly, Cajun Schill settled well off the fence around Kentucky Downs’ sweeping turn. He made a swift move from eighth to first in the stretch, pulling clear in the end to stop the timer in 1:24.20 for the seven furlongs (VIDEO).

Ridden by Florent Geroux, who won all three stakes on the card, Cajun Schill is 2-1-1 in four starts and has banked $211,660.

Bred in Kentucky by Sheltowee Farm and Tom McCrocklin, Cajun Schill’s dam Miss Louisiana has produced seven prior foals, with six of them earning in excess of $70,000.

Cajun Schill is the fifth stakes winner of the year for Artie Schiller, with the previous four all coming in graded stakes.
