Bellamy Road’s Position Limit weighted at 116 on Experimental Handicap

The brilliant filly Position Limit was weighted at 116 pounds on the 2010 Experimental Free Handicap, just seven pounds off the top weight of 2-year-old champion Awesome Feather. Position Limit was the leading earner of 2010 for her sire Bellamy Road, who finished his first year as a sire with four stakes horses and ranked 12th in the nation among all first-crop sires.

The Experimental Free Handicap is published annually in late January by The Jockey Club since 1935. Each list is compiled for a hypothetical race for 2-year-olds in their division at 1 1/16 miles on dirt. To be eligible for weighting, a 2-year-old must have finished in the top four in a graded or listed stakes race.

Position Limit was stellar in both her 2010 starts. Unveiled July 14th at Belmont Park in a 5 1/2-furlong maiden, she exploded in the stretch to win by 6 3/4-lengths and earned an 89 Beyer Speed Figure. Jumping up to Grade 2 competition in the Adirondack S., Position Limit turned in another dominating performance, winning by five lengths and upping her maiden Beyer figure by one to an even 90.

Position Limit was bred in Virginia by Lazy Lane Farms, Inc. She was campaigned in 2010 by Starlight Partners, who bought her for $55,000 at the 2009 Fasig-Tipton Kentucky summer yearling sale.
