Carnival Colors (GB) earns the path to victory in $150,000 Virginia Oaks

Distorted Humor get his newest stakes winner Saturday night at Colonial Downs in the $150,000 Virginia Oaks when Carnival Colors (GB) split horses in upper stretch and held sway in the final furlong to best Mercilla by 1 1/4-lengths (VIDEO).

A close second in last year’s Mazarine S. (G3) at Woodbine, Carnival Colors is now 3-1-1 in six starts and has earned $160,764 for owner/breeder Godolphin.

Getting a good rail trip under Forrest Boyce, Carnival Colors was tucked just a few lengths from the front through the first seven furlongs. He came out between horses after straightening for home, then forged to the lead and held of Mercilla to get the nine furlongs in 1:48.83 on the firm turf.

Pedigree notes from the TDN

Carnival Colors is the 155th black-type winner for the sensational WinStar stalwart Distorted Humor, whose progeny have earned nearly $4.5 million this year. Godolphin purchased Carnival Colors’ dam Carnival Court for $650,000 at Keeneland September; she would go on to by third in the 2013 GI Alabama S. Her biggest claim to fame, however, is that she is a half-sister to the late Hall of Famer Royal Delta, who won three Eclipse Awards, six Grade Is and over $4.8 million. Their dam Delta Princess (A.P. Indy), a three-time Grade III winner herself, produced a total of six TDN Rising Stars, including GI Maker’s 46 Mile S. victor Delta Prince (Street Cry {Ire}); GI QEII Challenge Cup S. heroine Crown Queen (Smart Strike); GSP Empire Way (Empire Maker); and undefeated Khozan (Distorted Humor), who retired undefeated.
