Constitution connected to trio of million-dollar mares this week

Constitution, the brilliant multiple Grade 1-winning son of Tapit, is connected to three mares that fetched seven figures in the last three days at prominent breeding stock sales in Lexington, KY, including his first in-foal mare to sell on Wednesday at Keeneland November for $2,200,000.

Cataloged as Hip 447 at KEENOV, Ithinkisawapudycat proved to be one of the most popular mares during Wednesday’s session, with well-known breeder Mt. Brilliant signing the ticket at $2,200,000. The mare, in foal to the highly-anticipated first crop of Constitution, is the dam of 2016 Grade 1-winning 2-year-old filly Sweet Loretta.

On Monday at the Fasig-Tipton November sale, Constitution’s dam Baffled topped the prestigious sale after commanding a price of $3,500,000. Selling as Hip 104, George Isaacs purchased the mare on behalf of Bridlewood Farm and Don Alberto Corp. She’s in foal to Tapit, making the carrying foal a full sibling to Constitution. Twin Creeks Farm, co-owner of Constitution, was the seller of Baffled Monday.

Fifty hips later on Monday, Constitution’s three-quarter sister Jacaranda rang a bell as Hip 154, bringing a final bid of $2,000,000 to Reynolds Bell as agent, signing on behalf of Alpha Delta.

All told, a total of $7,700,000 worth of broodmares connected to Constitution were sold in the last three days, all to prominent breeders.

In his first season at stud in 2016, Constitution bred the third most mares of any first-year stallion, covering a total of 172. His first foals arrive in January.
