Credit River tops big Saturday at Woodbine for More Than Ready

Credit River’s incredible final furlong of the $135,000 Ontario Racing S. at Woodbine carried the 2-year-old More Than Ready colt to victory in what was his career debut.

Supplemented to the five-furlong turf race at time of entry by owner Hillsbrook Farms and trainer Breeda Hayes, Credit River was away last under Emma-Jayne Wilson in the field of six. Content to sit back off a very fast pace of :21.43 for the first quarter-mile, Credit River was still last as the field entered the stretch.

With no other option, Wilson swung the gray around all five foes and stormed past them in the final furlong to win by three-quarters of a length in :57.06 on the firm turf.

“This horse comes by his talent honestly,” said Wilson.  “You can see it in the form; his mom [Like a Gem] was a multiple stakes winner that I used to ride here, and one of his siblings [half-sister, Hard Not to Like] was a Grade 1 winner. So to see him flourish on the turf is no surprise.”

Credit River picked up $73,613 for the win.

Bred by Garland Williamson, Credit River is the 204th lifetime stakes winner for More Than Ready, whose son Say the Word placed in Saturday’s Singspiel S. (G3) over the same turf course.
