Esplanande beats the boys in the Cleveland Kindergarten S.

WinStar Farms, Blazing Meadows Farm and Michael Lewis’ homebred 2-year-old filly Esplanande overpowered the colts in Saturday’s $100,000 Cleveland Kindergarten S. at Thistledown, winning the six-furlong contest by a widening 4 1/4-lengths.

The 2-year-old daughter of Daredevil is undefeated in three starts, two of them in stakes, and has earned $120,460.

The dark bay juvenile took the lead in the first sixteenth and looked like a winner the rest of the trip. In hand around the turn and into the stretch, jockey John McKee urged her on in the final furlong, and she pulled away to win easily.

Esplanande is the second foal out of Southern Silence and is a half-sister to three-time stakes winner Liberate.
