Glass Ceiling takes overland route to win $100,000 Garland of Roses S.

Constitution added to his ever-growing list of 2021 stakes winners on Saturday when Glass Ceiling went from last to first to win the $100,000 Garland of Roses S. at Aqueduct.

The 4-year-old filly had the entire field in her sights through the first three furlongs, then kicked into gear. With no choice but to go around horses, jockey Dylan Davis took the bay filly six-wide into the stretch and rolled to the lead in less than a furlong. Davis let her cruise under the wire under her own power, winning by 2 ¼- lengths in 1:11.19 for the six furlongs on a sloppy racetrack.

This was the first stakes win for Glass Ceiling, who was beaten just a head in Belmont’s Pumpkin Pie S. on Halloween. Her overall mark now stands at 5-6-4 in 23 starts, with earnings of $332,612 for Charlton Baker and Michael Foster, the former also the filly’s breeder.

Prior to Saturday’s results, Constitution was the 2021 leading Third-Crop sire with more than $10 million in progeny earnings, as well as by graded stakes winners and graded stakes horses. Constitution’s 2022 fee was recently announced at $85,000 S&N.
