Kodiak Kowboy colt rolls in Santa Anita MSW

Three-year-old Melatonin graduated in style Thursday at Santa Anita, cruising to a 3 1/2-length tally to give Kodiak Kowboy his fourth winner of the new year.

Kodiak Kowboy currently ranks third on the 2014 Second Crop Sire list, with a pair of maiden special weight winners, an allowance score at Laurel Park, and also two stakes horses to give him $150,570 in progeny earnings.

In the 6 1/2-furlong contest, Melatonin shook off a pair of challenges in the first half-mile to draw clear in the stretch, powering across the line to stop the timer on 1:15.50 on the wet track, earning a very good Beyer Speed Figure of 87 (VIDEO).

Melatonin is out of the stakes-placed mare Yanquee Reign and comes from the same family as Twice the Vice, one of the top distaffers of the 1990s who earned over $1.4 million and won seven graded stakes. Melatonin was bred in Kentucky by S. D. Brilie.
