Laobanonaprayer breaks maiden in style in stakes debut

Laoban’s impressive run of First-Crop stakes horses continued on Saturday when Laobanonaprayer powered her way to a 5 1/2-length victory in the $150,000 Maid of the Mist S. at Belmont Park.

The 2-year-old filly is one Laoban’s four stakes horses and six winners from his first group of runners. Laoban, who recently joined the WinStar Farm stallion roster for 2021, entered the day as the fifth-ranked sire on the First-Crop sire list. His filly Simply Ravishing, winner of the Alcibiades S. (G1), will make her next start in the Nov. 6 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies (G1).

Laobanonaprayer, who had placed in a pair of maiden races at Delaware Park prior to Saturday, bided her time behind horses for the first six furlongs, came wide into the stretch and rolled to the lead, drawing away late to win convincingly.

The winner is owned and trained by Daniel Velazquez and was bred by Christina Deronda.

Laoban, who won the Jim Dandy S. (G3), will stand the 2021 season at WinStar for $25,000 S&N.
