Outadore surges to take $500,000 Kentucky Downs Juvenile Turf Sprint

Outwork rocketed to the top of the 2020 First-Crop Sire list with Outadore’s victory in Saturday’s $500,000 Kentucky Downs Juvenile Turf Sprint. The win came just eight days after Outwork’s Samborella became her sire’s first stakes winner in the $150,000 Seeking the Ante S. at Saratoga.

Outadore had won his debut on the Saratoga lawn, scoring impressively by nearly three lengths at 5 1/2-furlongs. Stretching out an extra furlong on a rainy Saturday, the gray/roan colt was just a couple lengths off the pace in the early going. Coming three-wide into the stretch, he took over the lead for good, holding off Fauci comfortably to win the 1 3/4-lengths over the soft going.

“I think they’ll both go a mile on the grass no problem,” said trainer Wesley Ward, who also conditions the runner-up. “So we’ll probably split them up in their next start, one to the [GII] Bourbon [S. at Keeneland Oct. 4], one to the [GII] Pilgrim at Belmont [Oct. 3].”

Outadore is owned by Breeze Easy LLC and has earned $334,100 in his two wins. He was bred in Kentucky by Deann Baer and Greg Baer DVM. His dam Adore You has also produced the stakes winners Piedi Bianchi and Mind Reader.

Outadore was the most expensive of 28 of Outwork’s first-crop weanlings reported as sold in 2018 (when he sold for $140,000 at Keeneland November), then hammering for $290,000 at the Keeneland September yearling sale last year.
