Speightster first-timer romps by 13 lengths at Belmont Park

Sam and Sy kicked away from the field coming into the stretch and ran away to a 13 3/4-length victory in his career debut Monday at Belmont Park.

Speightster, who got his first stakes winner on Oct. 10, is a top-10 First-Crop sire now with eight winners and a trio of black type horses.

Sam and Sy was a couple of lengths off the lead early in the six-furlong contest for 2-year-olds, then unleashed a powerful kick with a quarter-mile to run and was in front by six lengths in a matter of strides. He was eased in the final sixteenth to finish the six furlongs in 1:11.83 on a sloppy racetrack.

Sam and Sy is owned by Madaket Stables, Kent Spellman and Wonder Stables. He was bred in New York by B. D. Gibbs Farm, LLC.
