Sunrise Rapport first Japanese winner for Constitution

With Sunrise Rapport giving Constitution his 29th worldwide winner from his first crop, the WinStar stallion is close to securing the top spot on the 2019 Freshman Sire list.

Going off at nearly even money for his Dec. 21 debut, Sunrise Rapport galloped along comfortably on the outside in third for the first half-mile, then made a swift move for the lead at the top of the stretch. Opening up an insurmountable lead, he was eased under the wire to 1,800 meter race by about three lengths.

The victory was worth $63,956 for owner Takao Matsuoka.

Sunrise Rapport is the second foal from Kara’s Match Point, who was purchased for $450,000 carrying the winner in utero at Keeneland November in 2016. Kara’s Match Point is a daughter of GSP Home Court, the dam of MGSW/GISP Coup de Grace — now at stud in South Africa–as well as GISW Dancing Rags.

Constitution outstanding first crop has won four graded stakes: Champagne (G1), Sorrento (G2), Nashua (G3) and Sanford (G3), and placed in four others. He is one of only two First-Crop sires with progeny earnings exceeding $2 million.
