Tiznow juveniles score big at Saratoga, Woodbine

A pair of 2-year-olds by champion sire Tiznow turned in splendid performances on Sunday, with the filly Sky Gesture taking her maiden special weight debut at Saratoga, while Tiz a Slam moved to a perfect 2-for-2 with a turf allowance score at Woodbine.

Sky Gesture, a My Meadowview Farm homebred trained by Rick Violette, was all business from the break, dueling with Skylar’s Pass through the first quarter-mile before turning her away. She opened by two lengths at the top of the stretch and ultimately was a 1 3/4-length winner in 1:10.94 for the six furlongs.

Sky Treasure is a gray daughter of the stakes-placed Overandabeauty, a half-sister to leading sire Tapit and from the same family as multiple Grade 1 winner Rubiano.

At Woodbine, Tiz a Slam was sharp once again in victory as the Chiefswood Stables Ltd homebred powered to a 2 1/4-length score at seven furlongs. The 2-year-old colt won by a similar margin in his main track debut on Aug. 1 and could make his next appearance in the Summer S. (G2) on Sept. 18 over the same turf course.

Tiz a Slam is a daughter of Flaming Rose, who is a sister to Canadian S. (G2) winner Essential Edge.

Tiznow’s double-digit tally of 2016 stakes winners include recent addition Tourist, who won the $500,000 Fourstardave S. (G1) at Saratoga, the 14th lifetime Grade 1 winner for his sire.
