Two Last Words first stakes winner for Commissioner

Top-10 First-Crop sire Commissioner got his first stakes winner on Sept. 11 when Two Last Words scored by 1 1/4-lengths in the $100,000 Hillsdale S. for 2-year-olds at Indiana Downs.

Two Last Words is Commissioner’s leading earner to this point and one of his nine individual winners to date. His four stakes horses ranks second to only American Pharoah among freshman sires.

Two Last Words was never far off the pace in the six-furlong Hillsdale. Within a half-length at the top of the stretch, he wore down Mai Tai’s Gem and was drawing away at the end. The top two were a dozen lengths clear of the rest of the field.

The bay juvenile, owned by his breeder Deann Baer, won at first asking on May 31 and was a close fourth in the Bashford Manor S. (G3), his first stakes outing, on June 29. He is now 2-1-0 in five starts and has earned $102,149.
