Undefeated Carribean Caper romps in $275,000 Dogwood S. (G3)

Speightstown’s stellar 3-year-old filly Carribean Caper ran her record to five wins from as many starts with a in Saturday’s Dogwood S. (G3) at Churchill Downs.

Previously a winner of the Audubon Oaks in August at Ellis Park, the Dogwood was the first graded score for Carribean Caper, who has now banked $345,595 in her five victories.

Racing in midpack for the first five furlongs, Carribean Caper took over the lead in upper stretch. She drew off at will from there and was going along easily when she went under the wire in 1:22.57 for the seven furlongs on the main track.

“We’ll probably take a look at the race at Keeneland (Grade II, $250,000 Raven Run) on Oct. 23,” trainer Al Stall Jr. said. “Even further down the road maybe we could look at something like the Grade I La Brea (Dec. 26 at Santa Anita). Maybe in the future I could see her stretch out but right now she’s doing so well sprinting and we’ll try to keep her on that track.”

Carribean Caper is out of the Dixie Union mare Checkupfromzneckup and was bred in Kentucky by WinStar Farm. She was purchased by Columbine Stable’s Andrea Pollack for $250,000 at 2019 Keeneland September Yearling sale.

A TDN ‘Rising Star’ after her eight-length maiden debut romp in February, Carribean Caper is the 62nd lifetime graded stakes winner for Speightstown.
