WinStar Farm’s freshman sire Bodemeister, the dual classic-placed, Grade 1-winning son of Empire Maker, was represented with his first winner on Wednesday, when 2-year-old filly Bode’s Dream scored an impressive debut victory in a $42,000 Maiden Special Weight at Gulfstream Park (VIDEO).
Heavily supported at 1-5 odds, Bode’s Dream broke alertly from the gate, out-sprinted her rivals to the lead, and never looked back. The gray filly widened her advantage in the stretch to post a comfortable 3 ¾-length victory on the wire, stopping the clock in 51.26 seconds for 4 ½ furlongs over a fast local main track.
Trained by Todd Pletcher, Bode’s Dream earned $24,000 for owners St. Elias Stable. She was bred in Kentucky by SF Bloodstock, and is out of the Grade 2-winning Smoke Glacken mare Frolic’s Dream. Bode’s Dream was a $340,000 RNA at the OBS March Sale earlier this year.
A leading 3-year-old of 2012, Bodemeister dominated the $1 million Arkansas Derby (G1) by 9 ½ lengths before a pair of gallant runner-up finishes in the Kentucky Derby (G1) and Preakness S. (G1). He currently stands at WinStar for a fee of $30,000 stands and nurses.
Bodemeister was the No. 1 weanling and yearling sire of his class by sales average, and is again No. 1 by 2-year-old sales average (minimum of a dozen sold) in 2016. Bodemeister has had first-crop 2-year-olds bring $650,000, $435,000, $420,000, etc. so far this year.
